On Thursday, Manchester City proved a point in a dominant 4-0 win over Liverpool, the newly-crowned Premier League champions, as they look to reclaim the title next season.

July 2, 2020 - Raheem Sterling scored his first goal against his former club in a competitive match and played a significant role in two other goals as City handed Liverpool just their third league defeat in two seasons.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Sterling was brought down by Joe Gomez, and Sterling and Phil Foden made it 3-0 before halftime.

City's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could only turn Sterling's shot into his own net to round off the scoring in the second half.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is hoping the victory will give his side the confidence boost they need to finish the season strongly and succeed Liverpool as Champions League winners for the first time in the club's history.

Guardiola praised his team's focus, saying, 'It is important. Especially because they were incredibly focused.'

However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was adamant that his side had not slacked off in their attitude, despite the defeat.

'I wanted to see that we have really the right attitude. I saw that and the result we have to take,' Klopp said.
