Kimani Ngunjiri Accuses Uhuru of Plotting to Stay in Power ¶
On July 2, 2020, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri made a scathing allegation against President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming he wants to introduce communism in Kenya and prolong his stay in power using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking at the burial of three people who were killed in a clash with the police in Lessos, Nandi, Ngunjiri alleged that Uhuru was out to clip William Ruto's presidential bid.
"Uhuru should not cheat you he wants nothing in the next election. He wants to introduce communism and just like in South Africa create a more powerful position than the presidency," Ngunjiri said.
He further claimed that Uhuru would not have been president were it not for the DP who campaigned vigorously to ensure he ascended to the top seat.
"Were it not for Ruto, Uhuru would be nowhere..Kalenjins have stood with him since 2002 and as such he should return the favour..But even if he does not want to do so..he can take all his assets but spare his life," Ngunjiri added.
However, Uhuru has on several occasions insisted that BBI was meant to unite all Kenyans, saying he was not keen on staying in power after expiry of his two terms in 2022.
His close allies, such as Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe, have argued that the president will remain in power in a different capacity post-2022.
