On July 3rd, 2020, a Nairobi court issued a directive for an investigating officer to record statements from President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga within seven days.
The directive was issued in a case where two suspects, Rading Ambogo and Magoma Ayonga, are accused of leaking CCTV footage of Uhuru and Raila's tour to Nairobi CBD last month.
The suspects were charged on June 17th with the offense of unauthorized interception of computer data contrary to section 17(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act.
According to the charge sheet, the accused persons intercepted a security CCTV footage showing Uhuru and Raila driving into the city center to inspect development projects being undertaken by the newly-formed Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) on June 2nd at around 8 pm.
The two suspects denied the charge and were released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 or Sh30,000 bond each.
Defense lawyer Danstan Omari told the court that one of the accused persons is apprehensive, psychologically traumatized, and fears for her safety.
Omari requested statements from the complainants, including President Uhuru and Raila Odinga, which have not been provided to date.
He also asked to be provided with the original CCTV footage that captured Uhuru's entourage on the said day.
