On December 8th, 2019, a 26-year-old pregnant woman visited Lamu Police Station to report that her husband was trying to force her to take abortion pills.

However, her ordeal took a tragic turn when 28-year-old Rodgers Ouma, a police officer, took advantage of her situation and raped her at his house in Langoni Police Lines.

According to the court, Ouma had lured the victim to his house under the guise of helping her solve the matter, taking advantage of the fact that it was raining and they were heading in the same direction.

Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba found Ouma guilty of rape, citing that he abused his position as a police officer.

Ouma will be sentenced on Friday, July 3rd, 2020.
