On July 6, President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to launch the second phase of the Kazi Mtaani initiative, a Sh10 billion programme aimed at benefiting 300,000 youth across the 47 counties.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) during the closure of training for officers overseeing the initiative's second phase, President Kenyatta emphasized the importance of proper utilization of funds to achieve the programme's goals.
“We want this to have an impact on the lives of young people. But that can only happen if the monies given are utilised properly,” the president said.
He warned against the abuse of the initiative, citing the case of the National Youth Service, and cautioned against politicizing the recruitment process.
Beneficiaries will be identified by local elders and Nyumba Kumi leaders, with a focus on assisting the most vulnerable in society during this period.
President Kenyatta expressed his commitment to closely monitoring the initiative, having witnessed its positive impact on young people, particularly in Nairobi.
The programme has been piloted in informal settlements such as Mathare, Korogocho, Mukuru, and Kibera, and plans are underway to roll it out in all informal settlements across the country.
