Manchester City's title celebrations were slightly interrupted by their predecessors Liverpool as Guardiola's men exerted themselves with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Merseysiders at the Etihad on Thursday, July 2.
Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 25th minute after Joseph Gomez fouled Raheem Sterling in the box, opening the floodgates of goals.
De Bruyne's penalty was followed by a second goal from Sterling ten minutes later, making it 2-0 for Manchester City. The score was 3-0 on the stroke of half-time.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's own goal in the 66th minute further embarrassed the champions, ending the match 4-0 in favor of Manchester City.
Manchester City's resounding victory over champions Liverpool has an unassailable lead of 20 points at the top of the standings.
With the result, Manchester City complemented their second-placed position with 66 points from 32 matches.
Liverpool, however, remain on 86 points, but the champions are expected to lift the 2019/2020 trophy when they play at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, July 5.
