On July 2, 2020, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Managing Director Benard Njiraini in connection with alleged graft at the State agency.
Njiraini was taken to the Integrity Centre to record a statement after his arrest.
He is accused of frustrating EACC officers investigating corruption claims at KEBS by failing to provide crucial documents, thereby delaying the completion of the probe.
According to the EACC, Njiraini was arrested as a penal consequence of failing to comply with a Notice issued to him pursuant to Section 27 and Section 66 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No. 3 of 2003.
The anti-graft body is conducting an investigation into alleged irregularities and bribery in the tendering process for the provision of pre-export conformity of goods, used motor vehicles, mobile equipment, and spare parts by KEBS.
