Published on July 2, 2020, Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has fired back at his boss, Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru, accusing her of trying to hide behind politics to evade accountability.
According to Ndambiri, Governor Waiguru must stop passing the buck and be accountable to the county assembly and Kirinyaga residents in general.
Speaking at a funeral in Mururi village, Mwea constituency, Ndambiri said, "It's their responsibility to play an oversight role for the Executive."
He also accused Governor Waiguru of discriminative development, stating that every Member of County Assembly (MCA) has the right to development in their ward.
Ndambiri lamented that elected MCAs who have been critical of the governor have been denied development as a way to punish them.
The deputy governor has been at loggerheads with Governor Waiguru since the county assembly commenced an impeachment motion that later flopped.
He emphasized that anyone suspected of stealing or misappropriating taxpayers' money should be held to account.
Ndambiri further accused Governor Waiguru of hiding under the guise of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and Jubilee party politics to survive the impeachment.
He insisted that no person is above the law and anyone who steals public funds must be forced to return it.
Speaking at the same function, Kirinyaga ACK church bishop Joseph Kibuchwa supported the deputy governor, saying the governor should allow accountability in her administration.
