As the country's Covid-19 case load inches towards 7,000, the Health ministry has emphasized the importance of a balanced diet in fighting the virus.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman noted that a healthy diet is crucial for preventing and managing non-communicable diseases, especially during the Covid-19 season and beyond.

"Those who adhere to a healthy diet are able to maintain the acceptable blood sugar level, manage their blood pressure levels, and maintain the ideal body weight," Dr. Aman said.

He urged vulnerable groups to eat the right portion of whole grains and cereals, including cassava and potatoes, along with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products.

However, Dr. Aman warned people to avoid alcohol, sodas, and energy drinks, and to reduce sugar and salt intake.

On Thursday, the country recorded 268 new cases, bringing the national case load to 6,941 from 176,059 samples tested.

The cases were in 11 counties, with Nairobi leading with 175 cases, followed by Mombasa, Busia, and Kiambu.

Meanwhile, 20 patients were discharged, bringing the total recoveries to 2,109, while three died, bringing the total fatalities to 152.
