On July 1, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), where he underscored the significance of the National Hygiene Programme (Kazi Mtaani Initiative).

The Head of State emphasized that the Ksh10 billion project was personal to him and aimed at protecting the most vulnerable people in the country during the pandemic.

‘This is not a process of trying to get votes for any person – not an MP or any MCA. This is a process of protecting the most vulnerable people in our country during this particular period. I will follow this very closely,’ he stated.

President Kenyatta also pledged full support for the nationwide youth initiative, which will be launched on July 6, 2020, and will run for six months in all 47 counties, benefiting approximately 300,000 youth.

The initiative, which has been allocated Ksh10 billion, aims to provide a form of social protection for workers whose prospects for daily or casual work have been disrupted by the containment policies put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.
