As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, Kenyan health officials are emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle in preventing and managing the disease.
On July 2, 2020, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman advised the public to eat healthy foods and engage in regular exercise to boost their immunity and reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19.
Dr. Aman specifically recommended consuming a balanced diet based on locally available foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables, and protein-rich foods such as beans.
“People living with non-communicable diseases should eat healthily by consuming a healthy diet based on locally available foods. A balanced diet is critical for preventing and managing non-communicable diseases and their complications during this pandemic period and beyond,” Dr. Aman said.
According to the Ministry of Health, 268 new COVID-19 cases were recorded on July 2, bringing the country's caseload to 6,941. However, the number of recoveries also continues to rise, with 20 more patients discharged on the same day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,109.
