Microsoft has announced plans to roll out a new learning app for its popular Teams service, which will be available in preview later this year and become generally available in the calendar year.

The new app, unveiled as part of Microsoft's digital skills initiative, will integrate learning content from sources like LinkedIn Learning, Microsoft Learn, and a customer's own content base, providing a single platform for employees to access various types of learning materials.

“Just as companies today have a system of engagement for customers with CRM technology and a system of record with ERP, they will need a system of learning,” said Microsoft's president and lead counsel, Brad Smith, in a blog post.

According to officials, the goal of the new learning app is to use Teams as a way to host a continuous feedback loop between work, skills, and learning, enabling managers to assign and track learning progress, and helping employees earn certifications and recognition.

Microsoft's president and lead counsel, Brad Smith, emphasized the importance of a system of learning, stating that it will be essential for companies to have a platform that integrates learning content from various sources.
