On July 2, 2020, Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, was taken into custody by law enforcement in connection with the ongoing investigation into Epstein's recruitment of young girls and women.
Maxwell, who has been under investigation for her alleged role in facilitating Epstein's illicit activities, is expected to appear in court later that day.
According to sources, Maxwell has been named in multiple lawsuits by women who claim to have been abused by Epstein, and has denied any wrongdoing in the past.
Epstein, a wealthy financier, was arrested in 2019 and charged with sex trafficking minors. He died in prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial.
