On July 2, 2020, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) made the decision to postpone the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations by a year, citing health concerns as the primary reason.

According to Caf president Ahmad Ahmad, the decision was made after a virtual meeting with the football body's Executive Committee.

"The times we are living in, our health is of priority," Ahmad emphasized.

Cameroon will remain as the host of the 24-nation competition, with Yaounde and Douala cities expected to host most of the matches.

FKF president Nick Mwendwa praised the decision, stating, "It (postponing the tournament) is the only logical solution because there is not enough time to compete in the remaining qualification matches."

Kenya's Harambee Stars, coached by Francis Kimanzi, are among the 48 teams vying to qualify for the next edition of the biennial continental showpiece.

The team is currently placed second in Group 'G' behind Comoros, following identical 1-1 draws with Egypt in Alexandria and Togo in Nairobi.
