On July 1, 2020, the US PGA Tour made a significant change to its coronavirus policy, allowing asymptomatic players to return to competition after testing positive for COVID-19.

The policy change, which was implemented after consultation with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), allows players who test positive but show no symptoms to return to competition if they have two negative tests at least 24 hours apart.

This change in policy enabled American golfer Cameron Champ, 25, to participate in the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club, which teed off on Thursday, July 2, 2020.

Champ had tested positive for COVID-19 on June 23, 2020, at the Travelers Championship, but returned three negative tests in the 72 hours following the positive test.

According to Champ, he is 'extremely grateful' for the efforts of the tour, his team, and the experts who worked together to deliver this outcome.

Champ is seeking his third PGA crown, having previously won the 2018 Sanderson Farms Championship and the 2019 Safeway Open.
