On July 2, 2020, a Lamu Court delivered a guilty verdict against a police officer who committed a heinous crime in 2019.

A 26-year-old pregnant woman had visited the Langoni Police Lines in December 2019 to report that her husband was forcing her to take abortion pills.

At the station, she met Constable Rogers Ouma, who offered to help her with her case. However, he turned against her when they reached his house, snatching her phone and threatening her with a knife.

The victim managed to escape after being raped for over 30 minutes and spent the night at a neighbor's place.

She reported the case to Lamu OCS the next morning, and detectives found her items at Constable Ouma's house.

On Wednesday, the court found Constable Ouma guilty of rape and abusing his position as a police officer.

He will be sentenced on Friday.
