On July 2, 2020, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) launched a toll-free helpline for Kenyans to report cases of police brutality and harassment. The move has sparked a heated debate on social media, with some citizens expressing skepticism about the initiative's effectiveness.

LSK has made it possible for Kenyans to report cases of police brutality and harassment by calling the toll-free number 0800720434. However, not everyone is convinced that this will lead to tangible action.

Some citizens have questioned the capacity of LSK to handle the reported cases, with Mr. Moh'dfaiz Saleh writing, "In Kenya money speaks... stop talking, Kenyans need action." Others have expressed concerns about the potential for tribalism within LSK, with Mr. Maina Kane stating, "LSK is a haven of tribalism."

On the other hand, some citizens have praised the initiative, with Mr. Faiz Musa writing, "Good move. This is great." Others have suggested that LSK should extend the toll-free number to report cases of corruption, with Ms. Vivian Kadu urging, "What about brutality against citizens when they lost public funds in the name of service fee like the one we witnessed just the other day. Which toll free number do we call to get explanation?"

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the LSK helpline will be an effective tool in addressing police brutality and harassment in Kenya.
