Published on July 2, 2020, Kenya Power's decision to end sports sponsorship citing tough economic times has left Western Stima without a sponsor.
Western Stima's chairman, Laban Jobita, has confirmed that the club will rebrand and change its name to one that the community in Kisumu can relate with.
Jobita stated, 'I think we will now have to change our name because our partnership with them has ended. We are looking at a name that the people of Kisumu can relate with.'
The club's focus is currently on securing a new sponsor to continue giving talented youth in Kisumu a chance to be spotted by top clubs in the world.
Jobita also announced that the club will not hold onto players who want to leave, allowing those who want to depart to leave for greener pastures.
Several Stima players, including Fidel Origa, Kelly Wesonga, Maurice Ojwang, Benson Omalla, and Abdalla Wankuru, are being trailed by rival clubs.
Western Stima has produced top players in the country, including Gor Mahia captain Kenneth Muguna and his assistant Joash Onyango.
