Published on July 2, 2020, the Budget and Appropriations Committee report revealed a significant increase in the recurrent budget for the governor's office, rising by Sh114 million in the new financial year.
This represents a 56% increase, with the governor's budget expected to jump from Sh205 million to Sh319 million.
The increase is attributed to higher expenditure on catering, daily subsistence allowance, personal allowances, and maintenance.
Expenditure on catering increased by Sh2.2 million, from Sh4.3 million in the 2019/20 financial year to Sh6.5 million, while personal allowances have gone up by Sh1.2 million, from Sh6.7 million to Sh7.9 million.
Additionally, the daily subsistence allowance increased from Sh2.3 million to Sh3.5 million.
The reasons behind the increases include the deployment of additional security officers to the governor's residence in Lugari and the introduction of service delivery meetings.
The report also raised questions about the status of the governor's residence, with plans to transform it into an office for the county chief.
The county assembly was allocated Sh1.066 billion, with Sh645.2 million allocated for personnel emoluments and Sh422 million for other operations.
