Gor Mahia has been plunged into mourning following the death of club legend Suleiman Khamis Shamba, who passed away on June 30, 2020, after a long battle with kidney failure at a Kisumu hospital.

Shamba, a legendary defender, was part of the team that made history at the 1979 continental cup and also formed part of the Harambee Stars team that won three Cecafa Senior Challenge titles in the 80s.

During his playing time, Shamba helped K'Ogalo reach the finals of the 1979 Africa Cup Winners tournament and spent nearly a decade at the club before hanging his boots in 1986.

After his retirement, Shamba went into football administration, serving in the Football Kenya Federation for four years.

Gor Mahia has urged fans to keep his family and friends in prayer, saying, "It's with deep sorrow we have been informed of the demise of our legend Suleiman Khamis Shamba, which occurred this morning in Kisumu, please keep his family and friends in prayers. RIP legend,"
