On December 8th, 2019, a disturbing incident occurred at the Lamu Police Lines in Langoni, where Police Constable Rodgers Ouma, 28, was accused of indecently assaulting a woman.
According to the court proceedings, Ouma was found guilty of abusing his position of authority as a police officer, which is a serious offense.
On the day of the incident, the woman had gone to the police station to report that her husband was forcing her to take abortion pills. After recording her statement, Ouma allegedly promised to help her, but instead, he indecently assaulted her.
As the woman was leaving the police station, Ouma ordered her to go back to his office, where he allegedly indecently assaulted her again.
After the incident, the woman went to her neighbor's house and reported the matter to the OCS of Lamu Police Station the next day.
Following an investigation, the police found evidence that corroborated the woman's allegations, and Ouma was subsequently charged with abuse of authority.
On July 2nd, 2020, the judge delivered his verdict, finding Ouma guilty of the charges brought against him.
Ouma will be sentenced on Friday.
