Published on July 2, 2020, a recent article highlighted the importance of proper care and handling of nonstick cookware to maintain their effectiveness.

Nonstick pans and skillets are a popular choice for cooking due to their ability to provide healthier meals by requiring less oil. However, improper care and handling can lead to the finish chipping off, causing food to stick.

One common mistake people make is using metal spoons to cut serving portions. This can scratch the coating on the nonstick pan, rendering it ineffective. Instead, use rubber or silicone spatulas to divide and serve food.

Improper storage of cookware is another way to ruin nonstick kitchenware. Storing them together with other metallic kitchenware can result in scratches in the finish. To avoid this, nest them carefully and ensure that nothing with sharp edges sits on the inside or touches your nonstick pans.

When cleaning your nonstick kitchenware, avoid using scouring items that are metal-based or those with harsh cleansers, as they can wear off the coating. Instead, use soft sponges and plastic scourers. If some food residue on the pan is not coming off, allow the pan to soak for a moment.
