Published on July 2, 2020, a court case has taken an interesting turn as Milimani Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul ordered an investigating officer to record statements from President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The order was made in a case lodged against two Sarova Stanley contractees, Patrick Rading Ambogo and Janet Magoma Ayonga, who were charged with unauthorized interception of computer data under Section 17 (1) of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act.
The footage in question was obtained from June 2, 2020 CCTV recordings captured by Sarova Stanley surveillance cameras, showing President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga inspecting a deserted Kenyatta Avenue at 8:20pm.
The two suspects, who are currently out on Ksh10, 000 bail each, are being represented by lawyers Danstan Omari and Apollo Moboya.
According to Omari, the defense had requested the prosecution to furnish them with statements filed by President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga, but the prosecution had yet to heed their request.
Magistrate Abdul described the case as “interesting” and ordered the parties to appear before her on July 9, 2020.
