On Thursday, July 2, 2020, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Managing Director Bernard Njiraini.
The arrest comes after Njiraini was accused of continuously failing to comply with investigation officers, thus frustrating the timely conclusion of the probe.
According to a statement from the anti-graft agency, Njiraini was arrested as a penal consequence of failing to comply with a Notice issued to him pursuant to Section 27 and Section 66 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No. 3 of 2003.
The EACC has been probing alleged procurement irregularities and payment of bribes in the tendering process for provision pre-export conformity of goods, used motor vehicles, mobile equipment, and spare parts by KEBS.
