On June 11, four-year-old Alvina Mutheu and her best friend Henry Jacktone, also four, went missing from their home in KMC Estate while playing outside.

Their distraught parents reported the incident to the Athi-River Police Station, where officers began searching for the children, visiting hospitals and mortuaries until Tuesday afternoon.

It was then that a Nairobi salesman, who had gone to the station to pick up his detained car, informed the officers of a foul smell emanating from the boot of his Toyota Belta.

The vehicle had been at the station for over three months after being involved in an accident on Mombasa Road on March 4.

When the salesman opened the boot, he found the two bodies wrapped in a black paper bag.

‘When the owner came to pick the car, he realized that there was a strange cargo in the boot of the car, which was wrapped in a black paper bag,’ said an investigating officer.

Investigators from the DCI Homicide Unit took over the case, and the parents of the children were summoned to the police station to confirm the identities of the bodies.

As the investigation unfolds, questions remain about how the killer accessed the vehicle inside the police station and what their motive was.

The DCI is expected to present a preliminary report to boss George Kinoti within the next week.
