On July 1, 2020, Health CAS Rashid Aman expressed gratitude to a Ruaka resident who visited his office to share concerns about the area's handling of Covid-19. The resident, who wished to remain unnamed, had been kept waiting for a while before being allowed to see the CAS.
According to Dr. Aman, the resident narrated how Ruaka residents were not adhering to government measures, particularly in public transport. The CAS was touched by the man's determination to convey his message, despite not being a man of means.
Dr. Aman shared the resident's concerns, stating that people in Ruaka were disregarding containment measures, including those related to transportation and travel. The resident had personally experienced this, having been in a matatu with his wife that was overloaded beyond capacity.
The CAS commended the resident's patience and concern, urging all Kenyans, including matatu operators, to adhere to instructions on the maximum number of passengers that can be carried. He also made a special appeal for personal responsibility in the fight against Covid-19.
Kenya had recorded 307 new Covid-19 cases on July 1, 2020, the highest since the outbreak, bringing the country's total confirmed cases to 6,673.
