On Tuesday afternoon, a gruesome discovery was made at the Athi River police station when two decomposing bodies of a boy and a girl, aged four, were found inside a car.
The two children had been reported missing on June 11 from their KMC Estate home while playing outside.
According to reports, a man who had gone to the station to pick up his impounded Toyota Belta alerted the officers to a foul smell coming from the trunk of his car.
Upon opening the trunk, the bodies of the two minors were discovered stashed inside a black paper bag.
Police officers had a difficult time repulsing a crowd that had attempted to access the area where the car had been parked.
The bodies were later identified by their parents as lvina Mutheu and Henry Jacktone and taken to the Chiromo Mortuary.
A multi-agency team, including homicide and forensics detectives, has been deployed to investigate the matter.
Pathologists handling the case noted that there were no bloodstains in the car, raising questions about how the decomposing bodies had not been detected earlier.
