On Wednesday, a gruesome discovery was made at the Athi River Police Station when two decomposing bodies of a boy and a girl were found inside a vehicle.
The children, aged three and four, had gone missing on June 11, according to Athi River police boss Catherine Rigera.
Ms Rigera stated that the children were reported missing on June 11 and that the police had been searching for them since then.
The bodies were discovered by a man who had gone to the police station to collect his vehicle, which had been impounded on March 4 after being involved in a road crash.
After the parents identified the bodies, they were moved to Chiromo Mortuary for further examination.
Ms Rigera confirmed that an investigation has been opened into the tragic incident.
