On Tuesday night, police in Meru County apprehended a lesbian couple, Kellen Kagwiria, 48, and Catherine Naitore, 38, for allegedly engaging in public lewdness in front of their children.

The incident occurred at their home in Githongo area, Meru County, after neighbors responded to noises from the children, who witnessed their parents' indecency.

According to Imenti Central Police Commander John Taurus, the two are being detained pending arraignment in court on Friday.

"The will be remanded until Friday to allow police to carry out the investigation. They will answer cases of practicing the unnatural act of having canal knowledge against the normal order of nature, being idle and disorderly and causing a common nuisance," said Taurus.

Both Kellen, a primary school teacher and mother of three, and Catherine, a trader at Githongo market, reportedly divorced their husbands and live with their young children.

Residents expressed shock and disappointment at the incident, with one resident, Jane Muthoni, saying, "It's shameful for old women to get involved in lesbianism. We wonder why they never looked for men to satisfy them instead of doing the unnatural act and one being a teacher, we wonder the example she is setting to our children."
