On Wednesday, July 2, 2020, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) witnessed a significant rise in turnover, reaching KSh 480 million, a 34% increase from the previous day's KSh 359 million.
Safaricom, the telecommunications giant, was the top mover of the day, with 11.5 million shares traded, accounting for 69.12% of the day's traded value. The company's turnover for the day was KSh 332 million.
Kenya Airways emerged as the top gainer, with a 9.76% share price appreciation, closing the day at KSh 3.28. The airline's share price has been on the rise, gaining 39.1% in the last four trading sessions. A total of 159,400 shares were traded, valued at KSh 573,840.
Other gainers of the day included Liberty Kenya (9.48%), Carbacid (7.48%), Home Afrika (7.32%), and NSE (3.36%). In contrast, 16 stocks experienced a decline in share price value, with Sameer Africa and Flame tree group leading the losers with 9.71% and 5.73% share price depreciation, respectively.
The banking sector contributed significantly to the day's traded value, with shares worth KSh 130 million transacted, accounting for 27.20% of the day's traded value. Equity Group moved 2.2 million shares valued at KSh 77 million, while Cooperative bank and KCB Group also experienced notable trading activity.
The NSE All share index gained 0.05 points to close at 137.73, while the NSE 20 and NSE 25 indices also recorded gains, closing at 1947.64 and 3215.67, respectively.
