As the country continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, Kisumu County has taken a proactive approach to curb the spread of the virus. Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has announced that all staff in the county must take a mandatory COVID-19 test before accessing their offices, starting from July 2, 2020.

The move is aimed at giving members of the public the confidence and to also make them realise the importance of taking the COVID-19 test. According to the governor, knowing one's status will help protect loved ones from the killer virus.

"I know many people are afraid of taking this test because of the unknown result, but I want to tell you knowing your status will help you protect your loved ones from this killer virus," said Nyong'o.

The county has so far reported 24 cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, with one death. The governor also reiterated that restrictions on burial and social gathering remain in place, and those flouting them would be liable for punishment.

As of July 2, 2020, Kenya had recorded 6,673 COVID-19 cases after a record 307 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours.
