On July 2, 2020, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi urged lawmakers to get tested for Covid-19 before interacting with their constituents during the recess.

Mr. Muturi emphasized the importance of social distancing, saying, "Ensure that you observe social distancing too."

His advice came after Wajir North MP Ahmed Abdisalan was ordered out of the chambers for not wearing a face mask.

Two lawmakers had tested positive for coronavirus, with one already being discharged from hospital after testing negative.

Mr. Muturi assured the public that Parliament has taken steps to ensure the safety of its workers and that the medical details of the lawmakers remain confidential.
