On July 2, 2020, the New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union (KPCU) Dandora plant made a significant contribution to the revival of the coffee sector by milling over 5,000 bags of coffee.

Agriculture Chief Administrative Secretary Anne Nyaga announced the achievement, stating that the plant had received over 430 tonnes of coffee parchment, out of which 5,000 bags were milled and ready for marketing.

This is the largest consignment milled by the agency since its revival this year, and it marks a significant step towards revitalizing the coffee sector.

Ms. Nyaga also highlighted the government's efforts to support coffee farmers, including the disbursement of Sh1.3 million in farm inputs to growers in Kiambu, Murang'a, and Nyeri.

Additionally, KPCU received Sh2.7 billion from the Treasury for lending to coffee farmers, further demonstrating the government's commitment to reviving the sector.

According to New KPCU chief executive Harry Kinyua, the agency is in talks with buyers who are interested in purchasing the milled coffee, with the goal of taking all the available coffee.
