US-Based Caroline Wanga Named Interim CEO of Essence Communications

July 1, 2020 - In a significant leadership change, Essence Communications Inc. has named Caroline Wanga as its interim CEO. Wanga, a Kenyan executive, takes over the position following the resignation of former CEO Richelieu Dennis.

Wanga, who was hired by Essence on June 2nd this year, previously served as the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer and Vice President of Human Resources at the Target Corporation.

As interim CEO, Wanga will work closely with team leads across the organization to oversee the day-to-day operations and lead an independent review process.

Essence Communications is a technology and commerce company dedicated to Black women and inspires a global audience of more than 24 million through diverse storytelling. The company encompasses its signature Essence magazine, digital, video, and social platforms, television specials, books, and live events.

Established in 1968, Essence Communications is owned by Essence Ventures, an independent black-owned, technology-driven company focused on merging content, community, and commerce to meet the evolving cultural and lifestyle needs of people of color.
