Residents in Kisii and Nyamira counties are being targeted by two con men who claim to be conducting research on behalf of Airtel, Telkom, and Equitel.
They drive a Toyota Fielder with registration number KCQ xxx B and approach locals, asking about their mobile network usage and offering a code to check earned points for promotional items.
However, the code is used to deplete the victim's Equitel account, with the scammers posing as locals to gain trust.
Many residents have fallen victim to this scheme, and authorities are being urged to take action to protect the community.
