July 1, 2020, marked a significant day for the Judiciary as Chief Justice David Maraga launched the electronic filing system for courts in Nairobi region, a move that will be rolled out nationwide in the coming weeks.
However, the CJ's day was marred by controversy after a woman appeared at the Milimani Law Courts, claiming that Maraga had neglected a child he sired with her.
But in a dramatic turn of events, the CJ's lawyer, Danstan Omari, revealed that the woman had used fake documents and a fake name during the proceedings, and had not even filed a case.
Omari further stated that Maraga has been under immense pressure to go on early retirement, but the CJ has refused to bow to these demands.
Speaking during the launch of the Judiciary's e-filing system, Maraga fired back at his critics, saying, 'I noticed when the president of LSK spoke it was like he was bidding me goodbye but I am still here.'
Maraga will officially retire when he attains 70 years on January 12, 2021, but he has made it clear that he will not proceed on early retirement until then.
