Kenya has reported 307 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 6,673.

According to Health CAS Rashid Aman, the new cases are from 3,591 samples tested in the last 24 hours, out of a total of 173,355 samples tested so far.

Dr. Aman noted that the new cases consist of 289 Kenyans and 18 foreigners, with 215 males and 92 females.

The youngest of the new positive cases is 1-year-old, while the oldest is 81-years-old.

The distribution of cases by county is as follows:

  • Nairobi: 154 cases, with Dagoretti North (34), Kibra (22), and Embakasi Central (18) being the top sub-counties.
  • Mombasa: 38 cases, with Mvita (22) and Likoni (10) being the top sub-counties.
  • Machakos: 33 cases, with Athi River (32) and Yatta (1) being the top sub-counties.
  • Kiambu: 20 cases, with Ruiru (4), Kiambu Town (6), and Kabete (3) being the top sub-counties.
  • Narok: 20 cases, with Narok North (20) being the top sub-county.
  • Kajiado: 14 cases, with Kajiado Central (7), Kajiado North (5), and Kajiado East (2) being the top sub-counties.
  • Busia: 10 cases, with Teso North (6) and Matayos (4) being the top sub-counties.
  • Others: Kericho (4), Makueni (5), Nakuru (5), Kilifi (1), Kisumu (1), Kitui (1), and Uasin Gishu (1).

One more patient has succumbed to the virus, bringing the death toll to 149.

Dr. Aman warned that if measures are not taken to contain the spread, the gains made so far could be eroded.

He noted that Kenya was one of the first countries in sub-Saharan Africa to take measures to contain the virus, but laxity among Kenyans has led to the increase in cases.

Dr. Aman emphasized the need for personal responsibility in containing the spread of the virus, and noted that testing is intensive and costly, but the country now has 28 facilities across the country to conduct the tests.
