On July 1, 2020, Kenya marked a grim milestone in its fight against Covid-19, recording the highest number of cases in a 24-hour period since the first case was reported in February.
According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman, the 307 new cases came from a sample of 3,591 tested in the last 24 hours, with 215 males and 92 females affected, ranging in age from one year to 81 years.
Of the new cases, 289 were Kenyans, while 18 were foreigners. The CAS also revealed that 600 people were currently on home-based care, and a total of 187 medical workers had been infected with the virus.
Dr. Aman attributed the high number of cases to the lack of adherence to containment measures advised by the government, warning that the number of infections was likely to rise in July and August, with Kenya reaching its peak in September.
