On July 1, 2020, the High Court in Nairobi made a significant ruling in the case of former Kenya Rugby 7s players Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba, who were sentenced to 15 years in jail last August for gang-rape.

The court's decision to quash the sentence was made by Justice Grace Ngenye Macharia, who noted that existing records did not show whether one of the prosecution witnesses was sworn in or not.

As a result, the judge ordered that the two players be tried afresh at a lower court, with the case to be retried at a later date.

Wanyama, 22, and Olaba, 23, were accused of gang-raping a musician at Seefar Apartments in Nairobi on February 10th, 2019.

The victim, who was also a musician, claimed that she was taken advantage of by the two players after a night of merry-making at a party in Nairobi's Kilimani area.
