On July 1, 2020, the Kenyan Senate witnessed a chaotic scene as two female nominated senators, Beatrice Kwamboka and Mary Seneta, engaged in a physical fight during the Senate Health Committee officials election.
The altercation began after Narok Senator Ledama Olekina was elected the committee's vice-chairperson, a position that Senator Mary Seneta was interested in.
It has been alleged that Mary's supporters had forged the signature of Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, who was not present during the sitting, claiming that Omanga had chosen Mary as her preferred candidate for the position.
Beatrice Kwamboka, who was supporting Ledama Olekina, was reportedly agitated by the alleged forgery and confronted Mary, leading to a heated exchange.
"You cannot tell me anything! I am Raila Odinga's staunch supporter. I will deal with you thoroughly," Kwamboka stated as she rose to grab Mary by the neck.
Other lawmakers intervened to separate the two senators, and the meeting ended prematurely following the scuffle.
