On July 1, 2020, ODM leader Raila Odinga made his first public appearance since undergoing surgery in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In a video released by his daughter Winnie Odinga, Raila appeared in high spirits, dressed in a yellow polo shirt and blue Khaki shorts.
When asked by Winnie about his health, Raila replied, "I'm feeling great, I feel strong and rejuvenated and it feels good to be out of town breathing fresh air, I want to thank all my friends, supporters and youth, and everyone who has sent me messages, it feels good and makes one recover faster," he said.
Earlier, Raila's wife had revealed that he had undergone nerve surgery in the UAE and was on the road to recovery. She dismissed rumors about Raila's health, urging Kenyans to treat such speculation with contempt.
The family also clarified that Raila's recovery remains the top priority, and that he would not be returning to the country anytime soon due to the lack of commercial flights.
