On June 30, Kenyans took to the streets to protest against the slow pace of justice in the case of DJ Evolve, who was left bedridden and paralyzed after an incident involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. The protests were sparked by a viral interview with DJ Evolve, which highlighted the inefficiencies of the Kenyan justice system.

However, just as the public outcry was gaining momentum, the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) announced that the case would not proceed until DJ Evolve was able to record a statement. According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the prosecution of Babu Owino had been slowed down by DJ Evolve's inability to do so.

According to an investigating officer's report, DJ Evolve is paralyzed and has a speech impediment, making it challenging for him to record a statement. Despite efforts to follow up on the case, the officer found DJ Evolve in a poor state and decided to halt the process until he is in a better place.

The matter had been set for mention on March 20, but was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent government measures regarding court operations.

ODPP's Decision

The ODPP had tried to oppose the decision to delay the case, but was unsuccessful. The office had decided to halt the process until DJ Evolve is in a better place to record a statement.
