On June 29, Faith Muthoni and Purity Wambogo trespassed into a France Line farm in Kathangari village, Embu County, and picked black-jack weed without the owner's permission.
The two women were arrested by the police after being spotted by the farm manager, Robbert Musyoki, and later charged with two offences.
During their defence, the duo claimed they had no bad intentions and only went to the farm to feed their hungry rabbits.
They expressed remorse and asked the magistrate to be lenient, stating, 'We did not know it was wrong to go to the farm and pick the weed. We are sorry and seek forgiveness,' said Ms Muthoni.
However, Senior Resident Magistrate Tonny Kwambai considered their mitigation and ordered them to serve non-custodial sentences, warning them against involving themselves in any other crime while serving the sentence.
