Mason Greenwood Dedicates Brighton Goal to Departing Angel Gomes

Manchester United's Mason Greenwood scored a spectacular goal against Brighton on June 30, but what made it even more special was the dedication behind it.

Greenwood, 18, netted the opener with a sizzling finish and sprinted away in celebration, making an 'A' sign in tribute to his friend Angel Gomes, who is set to leave Manchester United after his contract expired on June 30.

It has now emerged that the celebration was in tribute to Gomes, who came through the ranks of Manchester United's academy but has been unable to break into the senior team.

Greenwood and Gomes were fellow academy graduates, but unlike Greenwood, Gomes has been limited to just six appearances this season in all competitions.

Chelsea are understood to be the leading contenders to sign the out-of-favour United youngster, who has been unable to permanently break into the senior team.

Greenwood's celebration was also shared by fellow academy graduates James Garner and Teden Mengi, who posted a series of downbeat emojis in a massive hint that Gomes is set to leave.

Manchester United failed to reach an agreement over a new deal with Gomes' representatives, opening doors for his exit.

Greenwood's goal was part of Manchester United's 3-0 win over Brighton, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a brace.
