On July 1, 2020, Kenya received the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travel Stamp, a recognition of the country's adoption of global health and hygiene protocols.

The announcement was made by Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Najib Balala during the unveiling of the Magical Kenya travel and tourism health and safety guidelines and protocols.

Kenya had sent the protocols drafted by the National Tourism and Hospitality Protocols Taskforce to the WTTC and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for validation, in line with the Global reopening of Tourism and Travel Protocols.

CS Balala said, "I am delighted to announce that Kenya has been listed among the 80 global destinations certified and authorized to use the 'World Travel and Tourism Council Safe Travel Stamp' together with our Magical Kenya Logo."

The protocols aim to provide guidance for the tourism sector's reopening, ensuring Institutional, Operational and Staff Preparedness to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to rebuild trust and confidence among visitors.

They will also ensure a safe experience for visitors, implement enabling policies and guidelines, and provide a step-by-step process for the careful reopening and restart of business in the tourism sector.
