On July 1, 2020, the Kenyan Senate witnessed a shocking display of chaos as two nominated senators, Beatrice Kwamboka and Mary Seneta, engaged in a physical fight.
The altercation occurred during the election of officials of the Senate Committee on Health, with Narok Senator Ledama Olekina being elected as the committee's vice chairperson.
Seneta's team had allegedly forged the signature of Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, who wasn't in the House to cast her vote, claiming she had voted for Seneta for the position of Health Committee vice chairperson.
Kwamboka, who supported Olekina, was enraged by the alleged forgery and confronted Seneta, leading to a physical scuffle that resulted in the tearing of each other's clothes.
Other lawmakers intervened to separate the two senators, bringing an end to the convention prematurely.
