On June 30, Central Trade Organisation Union Secretary-General Francis Atwoli took to social media to refute reports that he had been admitted to a city hospital after contracting Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Atwoli, who has been at the forefront of urging Kenyans to exercise caution during the pandemic, emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it.
“Let’s avoid sharing fake news. Considering I am a person of interest, I will make it public if I were to get hospitalized. It’s God, the one God I pray to, who takes care of me,” Atwoli tweeted.
His statement was echoed by the Central Trade Organisation, which reiterated that Atwoli was in good health and had been busy attending meetings and online engagements aimed at cushioning workers from the economic shock of COVID-19.
According to reports, a local daily had earlier reported that Atwoli was rushed to hospital on June 30 after falling ill, claiming that he had contracted the virus which had seen Kenya record 6,366 positive cases with 148 fatalities.
However, Atwoli’s denial has put the reports to rest, and the public can now breathe a sigh of relief.
