Today marks the first anniversary of the death of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore. In a heartwarming gesture, his wife Wambui Collymore has joined the 'Boys Club', a group of close friends and associates who were close to her late husband.
Jeff Koinange, a media personality and member of the 'Boys Club', shared a picture of Wambui among the group, captioning it 'One Year later, Our Captain's Spirit lives on through his Amazing wife, @WambuiKamiru and The BOYZ Club! Thanks for bringing us together, Wambui! We shall continue to keep #CelebratingBob @bharatthakrar @Peter_Kenneth @PatrickQuarcoo @KCBGroup @PSdxb @xtiandela @stivogichbwoy epic.twitter.com/yGpoB1QgTW'.
Wambui has since launched the Bob Collymore Foundation, which is holding a series of events to celebrate the life and times of her husband on his death anniversary.
Bob Collymore was married to Wambui Kamiru on April 2, 2016, in an invitation-only wedding at an upmarket residence in Kitisuru, Nairobi. He had two children during his second marriage and became stepfather to his wife's children from her first marriage to Joseph Kinyua.
Collymore travelled to the United Kingdom in October 2017 to receive treatment for acute myeloid leukemia. He returned to Kenya in July 2018 to resume his duties as CEO of Safaricom while undergoing treatment at a number of hospitals. His condition worsened in June 2019, and he died at his home on the morning of July 1, 2019.
Some of the members of the 'Boys Club' include Jeff Koinange, Radio Africa Group CEO Patrick Quacco, WPP Scan-group CEO Bharat Thakar, Politician Peter Kenneth, Businessman Ally Khan Sachu, British High Commissioner Nic Hailey, and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) CEO Joshua Oigara.
