Published on July 1, 2020, Kisumu, a city that has been historically alienated by successive regimes, is finally getting the attention it deserves from the National government.

The government has set aside 1.4B shillings to build a 30,000 capacity modern sports complex, the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, in the city.

This comes just months after the revamping of the Kisumu Port, which the state poured a cool 2B shillings.

While speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the facility, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongo recognized the special role Raila Odinga played in lobbying for the construction of the multi-million facility in Kisumu.

”Joined @AMB_A_Mohammed for the groundbreaking of Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium at the Mamboleo ASK Ground, Ksm and unveiling the plaque for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Ground. Special appreciation goes to H.E Uhuru Kenyatta & @RailaOdinga,”’Nyongo Tweeted.

The ODM leader has been a key figure in the government, despite not having a designated office or assigned government roles. His Capitol Hill offices have been a bee-hive of activities, ever since him and the Head of State shook hands to work together in March 2018.
