On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred in Konywera village, West Seme location, Kisumu County, where an 80-year-old woman, Victoria Olwasi, died after being hit with a stone by a teenage girl.
According to eyewitnesses, the girl had been grazing three cows in Olwasi's compound when the two had a disagreement over pasture. The girl was instructed to drive the cows away, but she responded by saying she would return, which angered Olwasi.
Olwasi then hit the girl with a stick on her head, but the girl retaliated by picking a stone and hitting Olwasi on the abdomen. The old woman fell down and lay on the ground for some minutes before getting up and walking away, but she collapsed again a few steps towards her house.
Her family said she died on Sunday evening when she was being rushed to nearby Aluk Dispensary. The suspect girl has been arrested and is being held at Kombewa Police Station awaiting to be taken to court.
Leonard Olago, the woman's stepson, said the suspect girl's family had approached them pleading for forgiveness, but the matter is already with the police.
